Of course, obesity is a world-wide epidemic. Studies suggest that up to two Billion people are overweight or obese. Obesity is not only a cosmetic problem, it is a serious symptom with a lot of additional diseases. It is not only a “privilege” of the industrial countries. There is a high rate of obesity in Greenland as well on the other end of the world across the South sea. In the United States, two-thirds of the population is overweight, and 35 percent of the adults are obese. In Germany the statistics are quite similar - more than 50% are overweight and approximately 25% are obese.
These three days will be dedicated to covering a wide spectrum of themes related to the field of obesity. We can expect to enjoy a lot of informative presentations and intensive discussions.
In Germany we say, “Berlin is always worth a journey” (Berlin ist immer eine Reise wert). For this reason, I hope you will find some time to see a little bit of Berlin. Stroll along the famous “Kudamm” (Kurfürstendamm) or enjoy a cup of coffee on the top of the “KADEWE” (Kaufhaus des Westens) with a breath-taking view over the city of Berlin.
I look forward to welcoming you all for ICOCD Berlin-2019
